Michelle Chance
Michelle Chance is a reporter for a news website and print magazine in Maricopa, Az. There, she co-created and anchors a weekly, digital news broadcast called the InMaricopa Minute.
Chance is assigned the education and court beats in the region and regularly covers breaking news. Outside the newsroom, she covers stories as a “one-woman-band” shooting, editing and producing video packages, live social media feeds and photographs.
Daily, she transitions news writing styles for the outlet, including broadcast scripts, digital copy and magazine writing. Chance is also the content creator of the magazine’s bi-weekly, digital newsletter.
She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Previously, Chance worked the government and justice beat as a digital reporter for Cronkite News/Arizona PBS. She wrote for the award-winning investigative series “Hooked Rx” where she covered Arizona’s opioid epidemic.
Prior to attending ASU, Chance wrote for The Mesa Legend. In addition to reporting at The Legend, she held various editing positions, including: Editor-In-Chief, Features Editor, Events Editor and Web Editor.
During this time, Chance also interviewed international music acts and wrote online articles for Virgin Music.
Chance is an Arizona native who loves digging up stories about its history. She holds strong beliefs in the First Amendment and the protection it awards to the press and to the people.
